USCMO Council representatives met with Councelor Walter Miller from the Office of the US Permanent Mission to the UN

USCMO Council representatives met with Counselor Walter Miller from the Office of the US Permanent Mission to the UN and presented a USCMO statement that Mr. Miller subsequently submitted to U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley. The statement cited the UN’s top humanitarian official’s assessment that Myanmar was in the midst of carrying out “textbook ethnic cleansing” of Rohingya Muslims through the planned infliction of atrocities. Endorsing Ambassador Haley’s previous statement on the Rohingya, we also urged the U.S. to more fully exercise moral leadership by taking stronger actions against Myanmar and speaking out more vociferously. A strong public statement that evening by Ambassador Haley against Myanmar’s ethnic cleansing followed our meeting, in line with the USCMO statement. We also requested help in securing our proposed Myanmar humanitarian delegation to assess the Rohingya’s urgent life-preserving needs and the Office’s cooperation in backing Muslim relief agencies direct delivery of life-saving supplies to the Rohingya. USCMO is seeking liaison with the Office for mutual cooperation in this crisis.
