(WASHINGTON, DC – 6/8/2022) – The US Council of Muslim Organizations (USCMO), the largest umbrella group for Muslim groups in the United States, utterly condemns
the recent public defamation of Prophet Muhammad, on him be peace, and Mother of the Believers Aisha, God be pleased with her, by two high-ranking officers of India’s Hindu extremist governing Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) authorized to speak for the government: BJP national spokeswoman Nupur Sharma initiated the widely broadcast televised slander, and Delhi media operation head Naveen Kumar Jindal immediately seconded and blasted it across social media, both doing exactly their jobs, unmistakably according to plan.
That is because these two official BJP mouthpieces were, in fact, advancing party doctrine. Their statements, by design, were calculated and publicly communicated to further the BJP’s well-documented systematic program and founding ideology to disenfranchise, dispossess, and ultimately carry out its genocide of Indian Muslims.
Despite immediate Indian Muslim outrage and protest against the increased threat to Muslim life and property incited by these targeted Islamophobic and violence-inducing statements, neither Prime Minister Narendra Modi – himself a documented serial perpetrator of Islam-denigration and mass Muslim killing – or any single government official said or did a thing to assuage Muslim offense, quell raging Hindu anti-Muslim sentiment, or make clear India’s inclusive, democratic civil stand for all Indians.
On the contrary, Modi’s BJP authorities set the state’s forces of violence and arrest on peaceful Muslim protestors instead of condemning his government representatives’ outrageous slanders against Islam and punishing the hate speech of its perpetrators.
Modi and the BJP only found words to vaguely distance their party and government from its officials’ dangerous Islamophobic comments days later when the growing threat of international and economic backlash against India mushroomed.
India, unfortunately, is not alone among the world’s self-proclaimed “democracies” – professors of civility, liberality, progress, and enlightenment, East and West – in perpetrating a deliberate assault and vilification of Islam, its Prophet, on him be peace, and its worship rituals for the purpose of violently suppressing and exploiting a globally exposed and vulnerable Muslim population.
Let it be stated clearly, first, that not a single public leader of ours today of any nation or people even come close to the Prophet Muhammad, on him be peace, by the exhaustively documented measures of his honesty, austerity and asceticism, bravery, moral perseverance, unfailing hopefulness, nor earned anything like the unwavering adherence of his contemporaries or even the reluctant admiration of his opponents.
Modi and the BJP of India seem only to respond to the material threat to their own power. In the name of saving the Muslims and Christians of India from persecution and a coming genocide, we call upon the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) states and energy-producing nations to bring the full weight of economic boycott against India until the rights and liberty of India’s Muslims are guaranteed.
No state, Hindu-chauvinist India in specific, should feel free to besmirch and blaspheme the Prophet Muhammad, on him be peace, without dire consequence.
We call also on the nations of the world proclaiming their enlightened moral primacy to demonstrate their moral integrity by staunchly declaring their opposition to India’s persecution of Muslims toward an open goal of genocide and their systematic and categorical abuse of the Prophet, on him be peace, and all things Islam to advance this lethal suppression.
May God protect the suppressed and persecuted Muslims of India.
